中国共产党党员，中国工程院院士，世界著名静压轴承专家，东华大学一级教授、博士生导师周勤之于2022年6月7日17点20分因病医治无效，在上海逝世，享年95岁。
周勤之出生于1927年11月，浙江省上虞市人，1950年毕业于中华工商专科学校，曾任东华大学教授、上海机床厂高级工程师、副总工程师，1995年当选为中国工程院院士。
周勤之是我国静压轴承开创人之一，一生致力于精密机床的研究，为我国精密机床的发展做出了突出贡献。
周勤之新开发的动静压轴承在高精度外圆磨床用卡盘夹磨工作圆度<0.08微米，为当代Z高水平。吸收国外技术试验开发镜面磨削外圆磨床开创我国镜面磨削先河。他直接参与并组织指导研究开发的精密分度技术、接长丝杆技术、双薄膜反馈双边随动阀、磁分度技术、电子全闭环磨齿机、平面智能研磨等技术，为精密机床的开发打下基础。
周勤之曾提出：“要扎扎实实地做好科研基础工作；无论是一个行业也好，企业也好，都要有一个规划，既要有短期的也要有长期的，才能有奋斗的目标，就不会事事被动。”
